A tale tells of Queen Semiramis of Babylon , who ordered cardamom incense to be burned in her palace daily , inveting the use of cardamom as luxury fragrance.
Arab traders in the Red Sea routes around 1000 BCE brought cardamom to the Middle East and kept its origin a secret. They claimed it grew only in paradise , thus inventing a mystical story to raise its value.
Romans invented cardamom-flavoured wine and cordials it was considered an Aphrodisiac . (To increase sexual desire , arousal, or pleasure.)
The Greek physician Hippocrate (5th century BCE) wrote about cardamom as a digestive aid and perfume.
Myth says sages discovered its divine aroma and they offered it in fire rituals(Yajnas)to please the gods.
Around 700 BCE, cardamom was imported into Mesopotomia . Priests and queens used it as an ingredient in perfume.
